Summary |
Murder on the Santa Fe Trail is the story of the murder of Don Antonio Jose Chavez, scion of one of the wealthiest and most distinguished families of New Mexico. While traveling east on a buying trip to St. Louis, Don Antonio had been seized in Central Kansas by a gang of outlaws who robbed and then shot him. The incident at once threw the American frontier into an uproar, not only on account of the brutality of the act, but also because it threatened to disurupt the profitable international trade carried on between Missouri and Mexico's province of New Mexico. |
